This was one of the first pieces I wrote during my undergraduate studies, and has proven to be one of my most popular works. I grew up listening to works by Astor Piazzolla. There’s just something about a tango that fascinates me entirely. Of all the pieces I listened to, Le Grand Tango resonated the most with me. The way the cello and piano converse in this piece evoke images of two dancers intertwining legs and fast footwork in a Buenos Aires ballroom. I wanted to write a short piece that captured this same imagery with the same instrumentation. A tribute to Piazzolla, Tango Para Cello y Piano captures the passion and beauty of the Argentine tango.
